Moments of History presents 100 visually stylish short films that incorporate historical archive material, recordings, original locations, re-enactments, CGI and the participation of witnesses to history. Each of the approx. three- to four-minute films focuses on an event that is representative of larger historical contexts, such as the battle of Verdun in 1916, the inflation during the Weimar Republic, the day of Hitler’s seizure of power in 1933, the Pogrom Night of 1938, the end of WWII on 8 May 1945, the monetary reform of 1948, the “Return of the Ten Thousand” in 1955, the construction and fall of the Wall and much more.
This pilot project is the first building block of an extensive digital history project that will provide high-quality films in the form of clips for classical media as well as for mobile and digital applications. Each clip is supplemented by up to five thematically identical interviews with witnesses to history, thus comprising altogether 500 reports of about 1’30” each. Apart from conventional search options, new access routes will be created, including chance-generated ones.
